  About Coach Al

Allan Lawrence has been a student of distance running since the mid-1950’s and was one of the most versatile distance runners in his era.

While running for Australia, Coach Al won a bronze medal in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in the 10,000 meters.

He was the only male runner to win both the NCAA and AAU in one year until Bob Kennedy equalled that feat in 1992.

Coach Al also set indoor records at 2 and 3 miles (1959,1960) while running for the University of Houston.  In the late 70’s and early 80’s Al was acquiring many masters division, age-group wins.   He also set world age-group records in various distances. He has co-authored 3 running books with Mark Scheid,The Self-Coached Runner, The Self-Coached Runner II, and Running and Racing after 35.  These books can still be found on-line through various book stores like Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.com.
